Since 1963, starting in its earliest avatar as Punjab Stud, Mebajeona Stud Farm has been at the forefront of high-quality thoroughbred racehorse breeding in India.
Being a boutique, family-run farm, Mebajeona has thrived, surviving the test of time against the best and biggest in the business. Our consistent performance and ethical approach have helped us carve a niche in this competitive sport in India and abroad.
Team Mebajeona, now run by the third generation of the family, is laser-focused on quality. We define 'quality' as a combination of pedigree, conformation, fitness, nutrition and attitude that a champion racehorse needs. As owners, we run a tight ship and each operation of the farm, from dawn to dusk, passes under our keen eye.
We are equally committed to building long-term and ethical relationships with racehorse owners and trainers who are as passionate about performance and quality.
Our goal is to breed champion racehorses, and give our customers both - the best value for their money and the best experience as a thoroughbred racehorse owner in India.
Despite our small numbers (compared to larger farms that may produce upwards of 50 yearlings per year), we have produced consistent winners including multiple classic and Indian 1000 Guineas, Gr1 winner VIJAY’S PRIDE.
The farm has been a consistent nursery of genuine performers whether at the classic / group level or high class handicappers, the likes of PLENIPOTENT, MONTPELIER, Rodeo, Alameda, True Faith, Capital Attraction, etc.
We have also been active overseas. Surbirinder (Binkoo) Sidhu was responsible for the purchase of the multiple International Gr1 winner DAN EXCEL (Hong Kong Champions Mile, Gr1, Singapore International Airlines Cup, Gr1 - twice in two years). Mares purchased overseas and exported to Australia have given us fantastic returns with the likes of Albanilla (bought for £57,750 at Tattersalls) producing yearlings that have amassed over A$ 1 million, Adviso (£78,750) who apart from being a successful producer of yearlings that have done well in the sales ring is now the dam of RECOMMENDATION (multiple Gr3 winner and stakes over A$700,000).
Of late, we have embarked on scaling up while maintaining our high quality standards. We've built a strong foundation of broodmares, infused top-notch new stallions, and streamlined and modernized our feeding and fitness operations even further. From 2024 onwards, we hope to deliver about 22-25 yearlings to market, up from an annual average of just 12 per year over the last decade.
At Mebajeona, the comfort and well-being of our horses come first. We strive to apply global best practices for the breeding, healthcare, fitness and nutrition routines of the horses under our care. This is reflected in the always-on upgrading of our facilities, which currently include:
Surbirinder (Binkoo) Sidhu has grown up with and around horses, both at the family farm in Punjab and at turf clubs and race courses around India, Europe and Australia.
After a decade-long stint in corporate roles post a Master's degree in Foreign Trade, Surbirinder took the reins at Mebajeona in 2008. Surbirinder is an avid follower of pedigrees and thoroughbred racing around the world. He is also an experimenter and innovator, who always puts the well-being and interests of our horses, staff, and partners- race horse owners and trainers - first.
Apart from managing the affairs of Mebajeona, Surbirinder acts as a bloodstock consultant for select thoroughbred race horse owners and breeders, purchasing several broodmares and race horse prospects for clients in India and overseas. His most significant purchase being DAN EXCEL, a winner of three International Gr1 races in Hong Kong and Singapore.
He also maintains a select band of broodmares in Ireland, where he continues to buy and breed thoroughbred race horses.
Since Surbirinder’s return to the farm, the farm has bred the Champion Indian filly VIJAYS PRIDE (Gitanjali Indian 1000 Guineas, Gr1, Fillies Championship Stakes, Gr1) amongst Group winners PLENIPOTENT and MONTPELIER.
